We have a rx2600 server in production. The current console is a VGA display connected to the VGA "management port".
How do I go about accessing the MP to set the ip address for remote console access?
Regards

Re: How to access MP (Service Console) on rx2600
Use the keyboard/vga or serial line through the three-headed dongle to get to the MP.
:
MP> CM ---> Command Mode
MP:CM> LS ---> Lan Status for review
MP:CM> LC ---> Lan Config
Current LAN Configuration:
- - MAC Address : 0x001234567890
D - DHCP Status : Enabled
- - IP Address : 192.168.1.42
M - MP Host Name : hein26mp
- - Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
- - Gateway Address : 192.168.1.1
L - Link State : Auto Negotiate
W - Web Console Port Number : 2023
- - SSH Access Port Number : - (MP Feature Not Licensed)
- - IPMI / LAN Port Number : 623
Enter parameter(s) to change, A to modify All, or [Q] to Quit:
hth,
Hein.

Re: How to access MP (Service Console) on rx2600
get access and change the config as mentioned above.
To switch the console you have to go to the EFI shell.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to access MP (Service Console) on rx2600
Since you already have console access you need only use a console command.
Connect the RJ45 connector on the back of the box to the network of your choice.
Reserve an IP address.
Use the procedure above to configure it.

Re: How to access MP (Service Console) on rx2600
Thanks for all your responses. I know how to change all network related settings. My problem is "access" to the MP itself. Apologies if I was unclear before.
Is there a way to access the MP without using the serial interface? Perhaps a default ip is configured when one resets the MP? If so which ip address? 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x doesn't work.
If not, will need to get my hands on a serial terminal using the 3-head dongle. If I come right with this option, is it a simple CTRL+B to access the MP console?

Re: How to access MP (Service Console) on rx2600
How to switch to graphics when havign a serial console is described in:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-7635/ch02s02.html
With that selection not made, and no serial console available I would have expected is to show an EFI menu on boostrap. At that point, to get the vga console to work properly you will need to make changes in the EFI menu.
- Select ├в Boot Option Maintenance Menu├в from the EFI boot manager menu when it appears.
- Select the ├в Active Console Output Devices├в option from the menu.
- Make sure only the last entry in the list has an asterisk against it.
- Select ├в Save Setting to Nvram├в
- Select Exit
- Repeat the previous three steps for ├в Active Conosole Input Devices├в and ├в Active Standard Error Devices├в .
- Select ├в Cold Reset├в
Still I would certainly try to get that serial connections going, just in case.
Also, isn't there a physial (pull out) address tag label on the system? You can use the ARP address thre to make a connection.
From (windoze) command line try:
arp -a
This may be a useful doc:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5971-4289/5971-4289.pdf
and...
http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/rx4640_2600_1600_wp_FINAL_4-14-04.pdf
Good luck,
Hein.

Re: How to access MP (Service Console) on rx2600
mp00123456789
Otherwise the default address is only 127.0.0.1, so you need to connect serial and configure.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: How to access MP (Service Console) on rx2600
I checked DHCP and nothing there, so I assume the ip reset itself to 127.0.0.1.
Hein, I already have a VGA active output selected and can boot into EFI manager no problem. I can select the relevant output devices and it works 100%. Where do I go from there is what I really want to know. I do not get the MP prompt.

Re: How to access MP (Service Console) on rx2600
1) I know how to change the network settings when logged into the MP.
2) I know how to set the active output/input/error devices.
I need to know how to access the console to get the MP prompt.
Please help!
