How to create an npar

Hi,

I have one server on the Shell>, and I want to create npars in it. Does anyone have any documentation to create them on the Shell?

Carme,
You can create npar on particular hardware only. HP cellbased servers only supports npartition . What is the model of the server?.

Btw , npar can be created with parcreate command, but not from shell:> prompt. And There is always a default partiton (partition# 0) present with the factory default OS.

- Please provide :
# parstatus -w # will show the local npar number.
# parstatus

ok, then I have one problem... because I have delete one cell from p0 and now I could not boot from the disc.

I have this error:

I had one server rx7640 with only one partition p0.
I have this information before I delete the cell 1 in this partition:

Then I do:


#parmodify -p0 -d0 -B , to delete cell 0 and leaving cell 1 in the partition.

And now I cannot boot from this disk.

I thought that on the EFI could create npars...

On this server you cannot modify nPars from EFI.

You need to have hp-ux running, then you can use parmodify to add a cell.

Well, "parmodify -p0 -d0 -B ", has deleted the Base cell, that was having your boot disk, so obviously you will not be able to boot from that disk ( HP-UX Primary Boot: 0/0/0/3/0.0x6.0x0 ) as it is not available to the partition, now partition contains cell 1 only.

- You can install the os from CD/DVD media (the ioscan not showing any cd/dvd!!) or you can install the os booting from an Ignite-tape.
- and then restore/add the partition by adding the cell 0 to the partition.

# parmodify -p0 -a0:base:y:ri


- Then change the boot sequence with setboot, to have the old boot path in Alt, and you can boot the os as well by choosing the alt path from EFI menu.



Your configuration seems wrong, you must make the core cell as base,





Core Cell:
A core cell (also known as the root cell) is the cell that the Processor-Dependent Code (PDC) has selected at boot time to perform the following set of roles and functions for the partition:

-Support the console

-Support the system clock

-Maintain copies of the GSP chassis logs

-Via the monarch CPU, perform the system boot and execute IPL (Initial Program Load) for the partition.

-Keep the "master copy" for some data structures

-Serve as the criterion for the compatibility of the other cells in the partition; see├в Cell Compatibility├в .

-To qualify as a viable core cell, a cell must be a base cell and must be attached to an I/O chassis that contains a core I/O card.









Also the core cell is supposed to be cell 0 , it is showing cell 1 here.

Procedure 6-21 Setting Core Cell Choices (EFI Shell)

From the EFI Shell environment, use the rootcell command to set core cell choices for the local nPartition. The EFI Shell is available only on HP Integrity systems.

Access the EFI Shell environment for the nPartition whose core cell choices you want to configure.

Login to the service processor (MP or GSP) and enter CO to access the Console list. Select the nPartition console.

When accessing the console, confirm that you are at the EFI Boot Manager menu (the main EFI menu). If at another EFI menu, select the Exit option from the sub-menus until you return to the screen with the EFI Boot Manager heading.

From the EFI Boot Manager menu, select the EFI Shell menu option to access the EFI Shell environment.

At the EFI Shell interface enter the rootcell command to list or set the core cell choices for the local nPartition.

Enter the rootcell command with no arguments to display the current core cell choice list.

Enter the rootcell clear command to clear the list of preferred core cells.

Enter rootcell c0 c1... to specify up to four choices, with c0 being the highest-priority choice and c0-c3 being the cell numbers.

Exit the console and service processor interfaces if finished using them.

To exit the EFI environment type ^B (Control-B); this exits the nPartition console and returns to the service processor Main Menu. To exit the service processor, type X at the Main Menu.

Procedure 6-22 Setting Core Cell Choices (nPartition Commands)

From the command line, use the parmodify command to configure the core cell choices for an nPartition. You also can use the parstatus -V -p# command to list the core cell choices for an nPartition (-p# where # is the nPartition number).

Once you installed the os, you can check and fix the npar .
