How to reset console on a rx8640?
The console keeps writing junk to the screen, with every line that is displayed or typed. You can still see the text you type but it's surrounded by junk.

Re: How to reset console on a rx8640?
P.S. this is in the EFI mode. The machine is not booted any further than that.

Re: How to reset console on a rx8640?
What terminal emulation do you use? putty should be fine (xterm). Maybe a speed problem, default (serial) is 9600.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to reset console on a rx8640?
As I said above, the machine is down in the EFI mode. I am at the green 12" console in front of the machine. It has no networking.
I recall there was a key sequence to reset the terminal. I tried the ovious ones to no avail.

Re: How to reset console on a rx8640?
Power off the terminal, hold down "d" key and power on. Hold down for another 5 sec, this will set defaults. The default mode is "hp", so switch the terminal now to vt100/em100.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to reset console on a rx8640?
Did not help. It says
Default Configs Used
Press return to clear
and seats there, ignoring all input except for Return which puts it back where it was. each key stroke enters garbage.

"Junk" is not a useful description. Which characters, exactly, are
you seeing, where?
What, exactly, are you using as a console device? How, exactly, is
it connected to the system? How, exactly, is the console device
configured? What, exactly, is the Console Output Device setting on the
system?
See, for example, page 49 of the Installation Guide:

Re: How to reset console on a rx8640?
The server has 2 such core I/O cards. The upper is the master by default. Connect the terminal to the upper cards local port (bottom connector of the upper card).
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to reset console on a rx8640?
If you issue a CTRL+b does the MP Menu appear and does that output look OK? If not, you could try an MP reset. There is a button on the MP board towards the bottom that allows a hard reset of the MP.
