As far as I know these can only be fixed by HP service personnel. You should place a hardware support call with HP to get this fixed.

Re: How to reset "Machine ID number" and "Machine serial no"

Your processor board was replaced sometime in the past but the (very important) ID and serial number values were not set. Because a lot of licensed software products use these numbers, only an HP engineer can set these values.

Re: How to reset "Machine ID number" and "Machine serial no"

Hi

The machine idenfication (ID) number is unique to each machine. This machine ID is a combination of the system model and the serial number that is set by the factory or by an HP Customer Engineer.

Refer to the setuname(2) man page for more information about the machine idenfication number.

The unique machine ID number is calculated by a special algorithm. This number is used in licensing and legally should not be duplicated on another machine.

Hope this helps you!!

Thanks & Regards

Jones,

This is the original output from the box... I am not seeing serial number too. Is that possible to reset the factory default?

Thanks,
Karthik

Given that, Bill's response is the correct one - you will need to get an HP service engineer out to the box to fix it up.

Re: How to reset "Machine ID number" and "Machine serial no"

Any hardware changes recently?

The Machine ID number is aka UUID.
The value in your system is "blank" or "magic" = not set.

Best advise is to call HP support to get this fixed.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
