ILO on rx3600

I have a rx3600 integrity system
running hp-ux 11.23 that I am trying
to get ILO working. I did change the
core I/O board because I wanted the one
with VGA. I have read this doc over and over.

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-6005/5991-6005.pdf

when I go to https://mp
I get page cannot be displayed.

when I telnet to it I do get a MP login but
am unable to type anything in.

If I use putty and telnet to it in raw mode
again I get the MP login and I can type the Admin
login but it never comes back with the password.

I can hook a serial cable to the console and my
laptop and hyperterm to it without any problem.
But I plan on taking this system offsite soon.

When I reboot and try to configure ILO I get:
Loading ILO Virtual Media
Load of ILO Virtual Media Failed: Not found

So I went ahead and upgraded the firmware with
rx3600_rx6600_4_03.depot But still no luck.

Currently the firmware revision is
F.02.11 Jul 13 2007

I can do both forward and reverse nslookups
on mpMacAddress and it resolves fine. I can
also ping it by name and IP.

Any input is welcome.
Thanks
Paul

Re: ILO on rx3600

These products arrive from HP in working order. If its not currently working then its your rplacement board. Verify this board. Was it new or used? Is it the right product for this box? Did you buy it from HP or a 3rd party. If from a 3rd party then call HP for an estimate and ask for a product number. Cross reference this product number with the board you bought. Note your return policy on the board you purchased.

Re: ILO on rx3600

The card was new. I couldn't buy it from HP so I used a 3rd party. It was the only I could get the card. I am pretty sure it's the right card, All of the other connections work (serial usb vga)

Re: ILO on rx3600

Paul,

I thing the secure connection does not work unless you configure it.

Your URL

https://mp

should be

http://mp

Do you have a DHCP server in the network?
From your PC (or where ever you work), do you get a result for

> nslookup mp

Better to configure a fixed IP address for the MP with

MP:CM> lc

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: ILO on rx3600

I have tried http://mp and still get page cannot be displayed. I think what the real problem is:

When I reboot and try to configure ILO I get:
Loading ILO Virtual Media
Load of ILO Virtual Media Failed: Not found

thanks for the input guys
Torsten.

"If I use putty and telnet to it in raw mode

"I can do both forward and reverse nslookups

I think you should again connect via serial and check the IP settings (mask and gateway) again.

Try from MP

MP:CM> ls

to check (and post result, if you want).

Try if you can ping from the MP:

MP:CM> xd

XD

Diagnostics Menu:
Non destructive tests:
P - Parameter checksum
I - I2C access (get BMC Device ID record)
L - LAN access (PING)
H - History
Destructive tests:
R - Restart MP

Enter menu item or [Q] to Quit: l
l
Enter IP Address:

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Well, it looks good.

How about this:

MP:CM> sa

SA

This command allows you to modify MP access configuration.

Current Set Access Configuration:

T - Telnet : Enabled

W - Web SSL : Enabled

H - SSH : Enabled

I - IPMI over LAN : Disabled

C - Command Mode : MP Menu

Hope this helps!

Re: ILO on rx3600

As long as the IP settings are correct and there is no firewall between I can't see a reason why this can't work.
Do another try with SSH.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: ILO on rx3600

I still have some doubts if the server is the culprit or not.

There is still a possibility that a firewall or the network config prevent you from accessing the server.

I would try to use a crossed LAN cable and connect a PC and the server directly. Make sure to disable any personal firewall on the PC and use IP addresses from the same subnet.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Even if I try to connect from the server its self I get the following:

At the login I cant type any thing in the it times out. Frustrating.

Re: ILO on rx3600

What terminal emulator are you using? Hyperterm? Did you try putty already?

I still think the problem is on network or client side.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

but get the same results. I get the login but can't type anything in.

Re: ILO on rx3600

Its a long shot, but have you confirmed that your console path settings are correct? The older EFI boot handlers allowed for setting of input/output/error separately. This is different but...

Within the EFI Boot Manager go to Boot Configuration and select Console Configuration.

Just confirm that the proper values are set for the console you are on.

Re: ILO on rx3600

Finally got a chance to reboot the server in order to check out the console settings.

The Primary is set to vga
The secondary is set to serial

Both are working. I can hook a moniter up to the vga and it works. I can connect my laptop to the serial connection and hyperterm
as well.

Re: ILO on rx3600

So is it working now?

Remember, as long as the primary console set to VGA, you cannot access the hp-ux console via the MP.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
