Itatium 2 and HPUX 11iV2

Hi,
Since HPUX 11V2 runs on Itatium 2 platform instead of property PA-RISC platform, can we use standard machines with Itatium -2 CPU to Install and run HPUX 11iV2?
Or we can only install HPUX on HP's own Itatium 2 machines?

Hi,

What you mean under "standard Itanium - 2 machines" ?
For me it looks like words "standard Itanium-2 server" is the same as "HP's own Itanium-2 server" because HP is the only vendor producing all ranges of Itanium-2 servers from entry level to high-end.

Though IBM has it's own Itanium-2 server but this is more like exception that confirms the rule.

We are going to buy Dell 3250 Machines for test, and I want to try whether it is possible to install HPUX other than Dell supported (Linux/Windows).

In "HP-UX 11iv2 Release Notes" there is list of supported servers and workstations:

There is no others servers than HP's.
So official answer from HP probably would be like "No, this is not supported configuration". Though this does not obligatory means that this will not work.

Hi,

No HP-UX 11iv2 will only run on HP9000 Itanium servers. This is due to HP firmware requirements as well as system specific support chips. You could run M$ crap & Linux on any Itanium server, but not HP-UX - they need HP HW.
