MTBF rate for HP rx4640

I was asked to find the failure rate for the rx4640 and components (board, HDD, power supply etc.) Does HP post this information anywhere?

Re: MTBF rate for HP rx4640

Hi

The HP website has details about the server but don't see MTBF mentioned there

Re: MTBF rate for HP rx4640

HP typically doesn't publish this information, but you may be able to get your HP rep to provide a number for a specific configuration. Rather than focusing on the failure rates, you should focus on availability. For example the rx4640 has the option for a redundant power supply, so you can eliminate it as a single point of FAILURE. You can put the two internal disks on independent SCSI buses and mirror them and eliminate a SPOF. You can use dynamic CPU and memory deallocation in HP-UX to eliminate most CPU and DIMM failures as SPOFs. In HP-UX, PVlinks can eliminate FC or SCI HBAs as SPOF to disk arrays. You can use Auto Port Aggregation software to eliminate a LAN card as a SPOF. If you need higher availability, then ServiceGuard or other clustering products should be used. Simple MTBF numbers don't take any of this into account. Focus on creating high availability, to meet the requirements, because average failure rates are useless to cite if you have a failure.

Re: MTBF rate for HP rx4640

Eric,

There is no MTBF for whole model, but for each individual components. This info is HP confidential. Bear in mind if you get this info for disks you have to consider also number of them.
