We are trying to install nano on HP-UX 11.31 from the orting centre. It is a brand new Itanium server. After resolving the dependancies and missing libraries it appears to run but has a string of messages sent to the terminal where we are trying to run it. They look like the following
"Cannot remove alias 'kterm terminal emulator which supports graphics'
Name collision 'kterm terminal emulator which supports graphics' between
and kterm terminal emulator which supports graphics
Cannot remove alias 'kterm terminal emulator which supports graphics'
Name collision 'kterm terminal emulator which supports graphics' between
and kterm terminal emulator which supports graphics
Cannot remove alias 'kterm terminal emulator which supports graphics'
Name collision 'FM series MS-DOS V3.1 (TERM)' between
FM series MS-DOS V3.1 (TERM)
and FM series MS-DOS V3.1 (TERM)"
This prevents us from using it. Any ideas?

SolutionFound the problem. It appeas that TERMINFO was set to an application directory containing custom terminal definitions. This was upsetting nano on startup. I set TERMINFO=/usr/share/lib/terminfo and it started working fine.

Re: Nano installed OK but there is an endless list of screen messages
Greetings,
I am glad you found the cause to be with the environment variable. You may find details in the mage page of terminfo (4) very helpful, specifically the Section titled "Selecting a Terminal"
Thank you for the update and all the best!
