Need guidance to use the offline diagonastic cd.

Hi,

A rx4640 server in our lab is running RHEL ES4. The server stops responding now and then. Want to check if there is a problem with the hardware. I want to run the offline diagonastics on this. I have downloaded the .iso from hp site and have cut a CD.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=346361&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=88837&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=54#220

I don't know how to use the CD to run the diagonastics. Please suggest.

Thanks & Regards.

Re: Need guidance to use the offline diagonastic cd.

See this link from the release note (found on the page you posted):

http://docs.hp.com/en/diag/ode/ipf_ode_over.htm

Just boot from the CD and run ODE.

ODE> ls

for all utilities.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Need guidance to use the offline diagonastic cd.

Hi,

ODE>ls

I can seen cpudiag and memdiag and others.

ODE>cpudiag
CPUDIAG>run
CPUDIAG>exit

ODE>memdiag
MEMDIAG>run

I did the above to run cpudiag and memdiag.

Is there a single command, that will test all the hardware devices on the system (disk, cpu, ram, network card etc).

I don't mind if it takes time, I only want to confirm there is no problem with the hardware.

Thanks & Regards.

Re: Need guidance to use the offline diagonastic cd.

From the EFI menu, select the boot from removable media choice instead of the OS choice.

However, having worked quite a bit with 4640, my recommendation would be to download the latest firmware for the unit and any cards you have installed. Plus, since you are running ES instead of AS, you'll want to check whether or not you have cpu threading turned on or off.

Re: Need guidance to use the offline diagonastic cd.

Hi,

How do I check if the cpu threading is turned on or off?

For RHEL ES4, should it be turned on or off?.

Please suggest.

Thanks & Regards.

Re: Need guidance to use the offline diagonastic cd.

from an EFI prompt, use the command "cpuconfig". Whether threading should be on or off will depend on how many physical processors you have installed, what OS you have installed (RHEL-ES4, U?), and what the main processes on your server can handle.

For right now, I'd say turn it off.
