Re: Not able to open console of the Integrity VM host

1)I am getting the console of guest OS when i enter CO from host.

No, unless you connected like this:

(real)MP -> host -> vMP -> guest

and then via CTRL B back to the MP.

So if you do "CO" you are probably back at the guest.

Use CTRL X instead, this will bring you out of the vMP back to the host.

It is better to use the vMP **not** from the real console, but connect via ssh to the host, then to the vMP.

# hpvmconsole -P

vMP MAIN MENU

CO: Console
CM: Command Menu
CL: Console Log
SL: Show Event Logs
VM: Virtual Machine Menu
HE: Main Help Menu
X: Exit Connection

vMP> cm

(Use Ctrl-X to return to vMP main menu.)

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Not able to open console of the Integrity VM host

Thanks, now i have understand.

But still i have some doubts.

1)I am using some IP (172.30.0.23) to connect Management console menus (MP), so where it is installed.

For exapmple:

MP MAIN MENU:

CO: Console
VFP: Virtual Front Panel
CM: Command Menu
SMCLP: Server Management Command Line Protocol
CL: Console Log
SL: Show Event Logs
HE: Main Help Menu
X: Exit Connection

[emdlaghpv01r] MP>

Where the above things has been installed?

2)We can connect host directly or through "CO" of the above menu, am i correct?

3)So the host is having different ip (172.0.25.13), it is being used while connecting directly?

4)I am getting following error while starting Virtual Machine (guest).

Eample:

a)First i have checked for available VMs (Guests):

# hpvmstatus
[Virtual Machines]
Virtual Machine Name VM # OS Type State #VCPUs #Devs #Nets Memory Runsysid
==================== ===== ======= ========= ====== ===== ===== ======= ========
emdlaghpvm01 3 HPUX Off 1 2 1 1 GB 0

b)Then i started the VM, now i am getting the below mentioned error.

# hpvmstart -P emdlaghpvm01
hpvmstart: WARNING (host): Device /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0 took 15 seconds to open.

c)Actually it "/dev/rdsk/c1t0d0" is CDROM:

EX:

# ioscan -funC disk
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=====================================================================
disk 4 255/1/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TEAC DVD-ROM DW-224EV
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0

So how to start the VM (guest) by overcoming this error, or how to solve.

Re: Not able to open console of the Integrity VM host

1) The MP is just like a small PC inside the server taking care about the server. The IP address is unique to this device. The MP will connect via a serial line to the server (via CO command).

This will give you an idea how this works.

2) yes

3) yes

4) Well it is a warning, not an error. Is a media inserted? Try to use the "eject" command from the guests vMP.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Not able to open console of the Integrity VM host

Still i have some questions:

1) Does MP come default with Integrity server or is it preembedded?

2)How to start and stop the host through MP

3)how to start and stop MP from offshore.

4)is it possible that we can manage the VMs (guests) thru web interface?

3)How to eject the cdrom in host server?
I am not able to find the mounting point of CDROM drive by the command "mount", then how to unmount the CDROM drive.

And please give your answer for

Re: Not able to open console of the Integrity VM host

Hi Torsten,

Still i have following questions:

1)So we dont need to start and stop the MP manually, and you are telling that it will be stopped automatically once
we switch off the server and it will started automatically once we switch on the server. am i correct?

2)How to find whether Integrity VM is intalled on host?

3)what is SHM with HPVM add-on, is it used to manage the VMs through web interface?

4)How to eject the CD-ROM drive from VM:

I have done following steps to eject the CD-ROM drive, but it is not succedded.

# hpvmstatus
[Virtual Machines]
Virtual Machine Name VM # OS Type State #VCPUs #Devs #Nets Memory Runsysid
==================== ===== ======= ========= ====== ===== ===== ======= ========
emdlaghpvm01 3 HPUX Off 1 2 1 1 GB 0

# hpvmconsole emdlaghpvm01

vMP MAIN MENU

CO: Console
CM: Command Menu
CL: Console Log
SL: Show Event Logs
VM: Virtual Machine Menu
HE: Main Help Menu
X: Exit Connection

[emdlaghpvm01] vMP> eject /dev/dsk/c1t0d0

*** Invalid Selection ***

How to solve the CD-ROM drive ejecting problem?

Re: Not able to open console of the Integrity VM host

1) The MP is running as long as the server has power attached (no matter if the server is on or off).

2) use "swlist"

3) https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=VMMGR

4)

vMP> ej

Ejectable Guest Devices
Num Hw-path (Bus,Slot,Tgt) Gdev Pstore Path
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1] 0/0/1/0.3.0 (0,1,3) dvd file /var/tmp/ISO/installdvd1
.iso

Enter menu item number or [Q] to Quit: 1

Confirm eject action
G - Go
F - Force

Enter menu item or [Q] to Quit: g

For inserting use "in"

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
