Power Cycle in Rx7620 server

I have a Rx7620 server running HP-UX 11.23

Recently I had to do a RAM upgrade, and it was recommended that I do a power cycle before the upgrade. When booting up the server after the power cycle (but before the RAM upgrade), one of the cell boards failed.

What is the purpose of doing a power cycle? and What can be the possible causes of the cell board failure?

Thanks in advance

There is no such recommendation you need to do a power cycle before you upgrade the RAM. But if you do a power cycle, you can make sure system is fine before you carry out any changes.

Re: Power Cycle in Rx7620 server

So does that mean there are errors and part failures that only show after a power cycle?

Re: Power Cycle in Rx7620 server

Maybe a component does not pass the selftest.

MP log should have more information.

Hope this helps!

Re: Power Cycle in Rx7620 server

Thanks for your replies.

My concern is not about this particular cell board that failed.

In general, are there errors and part failures that shows only after a power cycle.

Thanks in advance
