Questions about iLo Events Logs

Hi,

On a rx2460 we have an iLo (Integrated Light Out) with a Events Log. This Event Log is very rapidly full (4000 Events). Here my questions :
1 - Where can I find informations about these events-codes (HPUX, BMC ...), alerts-levels etc.. ?
2 - Can I manage what kind of alerts have to be logged ?
3 - Can I send some alerts per email ?

ILO Version : Revision E.03.15

Here some alerts-examples :
5279 HPUX 1 1 0x3F00033A01E00000 00000000000CF02F HP-UX_HEX_RUN_CODE

Re: Questions about iLo Events Logs

Please check the server model again, there is no rx2460 model.

But in general, there are different logs:

MP MAIN MENU:

CO: Console
VFP: Virtual Front Panel
CM: Command Menu
CL: Console Log
SL: Show Event Logs
HE: Main Help Menu
X: Exit Connection

MP> sl

Log Name Entries % Full Latest Timestamped Entry
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
E - System Event 203 25 % 15 May 2008 16:22:07
F - Forward Progress 1740 43 %
B - Current Boot 82 27 %
P - Previous Boot 82 27 %
C - Clear All Logs
L - Live Events

Some of them (e.g. forward progress logs) will produce some hundreds entries for each boot and during the os is running.

You can filter the event logs by the alert level and switch to text mode:

Enter menu item or [Ctrl-B] to Quit: e

Re: Questions about iLo Events Logs

Yes, of course, it's a rx2620, sorry.
Thanks you for theses infos to configure the ILO, but I'm missing the signification of the messages codes like HPUX1, BMC or HP-UX_HEX_RUN_CODE etc...

Thanks
Thierry

Re: Questions about iLo Events Logs

You have several view modes

H View mode configuration - Hex
K View mode configuration - Keyword
T View mode configuration - Text

switch to text mode to see more information.

Regarding the run code

example F02F

in general it is FxnF

Indicates the system is running. An F in the first and fourth digits indicates the system is running normally. The x is updated every 5 seconds with the length of the run queue at that time (an instantaneous reading not an average). It indicates the number of processes. Loads higher than 9 display as A. The n indicates the number of processors

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Questions about iLo Events Logs

Thierry, did you notice the difference between the firmware versions?

Your system has E.03.15 - my system has E.03.32.

It is not related to your question directly, but to the MP in general.

Also please be aware of this:

Re: Questions about iLo Events Logs

Thank you Thorsten for your anserwers,

but you said :
"Some of them (e.g. forward progress logs) will produce some hundreds entries for each boot and during the os is running."

I have to delete my SL-F-Forward Progress every 3 days because it's full (4000 - 100%). It's so OK? It's more als some hundreds ... ??

Re: Questions about iLo Events Logs

It's not unusual, because it is a FIFO.

MP> sl

Event Log Viewer Menu:

Log Name Entries % Full Latest Timestamped Entry
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
E - System Event 219 21 % 14 May 2008 07:59:45
F - Forward Progress 4000 100 %
B - Current Boot 299 99 %
P - Previous Boot 2 0 %
C - Clear All Logs
L - Live Events

Enter menu item or [Ctrl-B] to Quit:

No need to delete the logs, but to be up-to-date consider to upgrade the firmware.

What server model is it?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

No, it has nothing to do with the run queue. X is a decile of how busy, with A obviously 100%.
