RX2620 Memory Errors

Hi Gurus,

I have this rx2620 server that has been running on 4GB of memory:
A6746-60001
512MB, DDR266 DIMMs

I removed these and replaced with 8GB of memory:
A6970AX
2GB, DDR,266 ECC DIMMs

The server is now showing the following error in VFP: Fatal System State detected. Check System Event Log (SL) for error messages.
Also when I check the system event logs I get this error:0 SFW 0 0 0x408000DC00E00010 0000000000000000 MEM_RE_CONFIG_IN_PROGRESS

If I mix both DIMMs in the correct installation procedure, only the old 512MB DIMMs are detected and the new ones still fail. Is it an incompatibility issue?

Regards,

Rianui

Re: RX2620 Memory Errors

You should update the firmware first:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=447331&swItem=ux-58103-1&prodNameId=441910&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1

>> MEM_CHIPSPARE_DEALLOC_RANK

sounds like a connection problem or one failed DIMM, try to reseat the dimms.

Any other messages before this entry?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: RX2620 Memory Errors

Hi Torsten,

I have resat the DIMMs several times and swapped them around but I got the same error. I had downloaded the firmware but paused from applying it (thanks for pointing that out). I will apply it the next opportunity I get to the system and update you. Below is most of the output.

Re: RX2620 Memory Errors

If one of the dimms is bad then you will need another 2GB dimm as they have to be in groups of four, per the service guide.

Re: RX2620 Memory Errors

Hi Torsten,

I updated the firmware but still got the memory errors. See the outputs below.

Hi cnb,

Thanks for your response. How do I identify what DIMM is faulty in case that is the issue other than getting another set of DIMMs and doing the elimination method?

Re: RX2620 Memory Errors

Hi Torsten,

It's been a while since saying I'd work on the system and get back to you. Happy new year :)

I removed the faulty DIMMs and the system is ok for now. Hopefully replacements will work ok.

Thanks and Regards,
