RX2620 on board SCSI tape drive support??

Hi

Does the 68pin onboard SCSI connector on the back of a RX2620 support a tape drive, if so what models ?

Thanks
Steve

Re: RX2620 on board SCSI tape drive support??

Use this to find out:

http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/IPF/13-9999-1005.html#matrixtable

but the recommandation always is, you can use a tape on this bus, if the upper internal disk slot is empty (shared bus).

from the page
...
The HP Integrity rx2620 (Retired) has a suitable SCSI channel for connecting the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 920 SCSI under the following conditions. When the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 920 SCSI is connected to the external SCSI port no other non-tape device should be attached and hard disk slot ID2 must be left unused. If this channel is not available for tape-only connect please use one of the following compatible HBAs:

A7173A - HP Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI PCI-X HBA HP RECOMMENDED ├В┬╗ Cables

AB290A - HP PCI-X dual port U320 SCSI and dual port 1Gb Ethernet adapter ├В┬╗ Cables
A6829A - HP Dual Channel Ultra3 SCSI HBA (HP-UX) (Retired) ├В┬╗ Cables
A7060A - HP Dual Channel Ultra3 SCSI PCI HBA (Windows, Linux) (Retired) ├В┬╗ Cables
A6828A - HP Single Channel Ultra3 SCSI HBA (HP-UX) (Retired) ├В┬╗ Cables
A7059A - HP Single Channel Ultra3 SCSI PCI HBA (Windows, Linux) (Retired) ├В┬╗ Cables

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: RX2620 on board SCSI tape drive support??

Hi Steve, You should be careful in this. Having a disk & tape on the same bus creates lot of problems in day to day operations. So please follow the above matrix table given by Torsten, before you connect the tape drive.

Hari

Re: RX2620 on board SCSI tape drive support??

Hi Both

Thanks for your prompt responses, I'm remote to the systems at the moment, so will check next time I visit, but it looks as though as long as the top internal disk bay is empty I can connect an Ultrium 920 to the back of the iTanium. If not hopefully I have a spare PCI slot to install a HBA.

Thanks

Re: RX2620 on board SCSI tape drive support??

Send a "ioscan -fn" and I will tell you if the upper slot is empty or not.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: RX2620 on board SCSI tape drive support??

Your boot disk is in the upper slot, so you must not connect an external tape drive to the built-in connector!

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: RX2620 on board SCSI tape drive support??

HP does not allow both internal and external channels to be used. Don't ask me why LSI and Adaptec allow it and they make the adapters and chipsets for SCSI and SAS for the servers.
