RX2660 firmware update

Hi!

I have a HP Integrity RX2660 Server in which I tried to upgrade the firmware but it had a error and the upgrade fail.

Now the server doesn't boot and the EFI doesn't start, I only have access by the MP console. I used the command sysrev and I obtained the following:

[rx2660] MP:CM> sysrev

SYSREV

Current firmware revisions

MP FW : F.01.58
BMC FW : f5.39
EFI FW : revision not available
System FW : revision not available

And I can see the following in the vfp:

Status Communication problem with BMC.

So now I can't upgrade the firmware again. I tried to do it using the fw command on the mp but I have a error too:

-> MP firmware upgrade in progress....
-> Unable to connect to source system.
-> MP firmware upgrade was not successful.
-> Check parameters and try again.

I checked the user, password and path and it is ok.

Somebody knows how I can install the firmware again?

Regard

Re: RX2660 firmware update

The typical solution to a failed FW update is to place a service call to hp.

They mostlikely will have to replace the MP.

Re: RX2660 firmware update

There are too many ways to upgrade firmware ... what way did you take?

Looks like the MP/ILO can't talk to the system.
Propably the best advise is to contact the support folks now ...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: RX2660 firmware update

You may indeed need to log a service call, but just for grins, peruse the system docs for the rx2660 at docs.hp.com. Perhaps they will discuss any A/B firmware and how to switch from one to the other.

Re: RX2660 firmware update

The VFP message " Status Communication problem with BMC." appears because the BMC version being shown "f5.39" which is weired ( screwed up because of the interrupted firmware upgrade process ) and BMC is a guy without heart.

The "fw" command won't work again in this case as the there is no working system firmware in place to support it.

The only option you can try out is using the firmware ISO image and use HPOFM as mentioned at
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3346452&swItem=ux-52904-1&prodNameId=3346456&swEnvOID=2080&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1

However if you look at this link at http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-5983/ch06s05.html#v1193453 which says "CAUTION: If the upgrade process is interrupted at any time, you might need to repair or replace the system board."

I would suggest to log a h/w call with HP Support and see if the have any workaround and if the system board repair/replacement could be avoided.

Looks like MP iLO is still alive and can be used once the system board is replaced/repaired.

Re: RX2660 firmware update

Hi,

Have you ever do a power cycle after the error message happened? If you have, the only way is to replace the MP, you better call HP support

Re: RX2660 firmware update

Doh!! I think the option of using ISO image is not possible in this scenario.

Re: RX2660 firmware update

Thanks to all for your help, but I tried with the ISO image and it isn't work because the system doesn't start and I can not view the CD.

Re: RX2660 firmware update

Looks like you need a new system board now ...

For the future: if an update fail, try again or call for help, but do not reboot or power cycle.

Hope this helps!
