Re: RX6xxx Itanium Server Console
Also are there any manuals online anywhere that can be downloaded that explain the console etc.

Re: RX6xxx Itanium Server Console
the OpenVMS Installation and Upgrade manual describes the handling of the EFI console for those being used to SRM (see chapter B):
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/83final/ba322_90045/apb.html
From the MP main menu, enter CO to connect to the EFI console - probably after you used CM and the PC command to power-on the system.
Once the EFI boot manager screen shows up, to go EFI Shell (using cursor down). Then find the FS corresponding to the DVD:
Shell> FS0:
FS0:> CD EFI
FS0:\EFI> CD BOOT
fs0:\EFI\BOOT> ls
...
FS0:\EFI\BOOT> bootia64.efi
and OpenVMS I64 should boot from DVD...

Re: RX6xxx Itanium Server Console
thanks.
I have another problem, the server appears to not recognize the internal hard drive.
Do you know how to configure the internal hard drive?
fs0:\EFI\BOOT> vms_show device
VMS: DNA0 USB Mass Storage Device
EFI: fs0: Acpi(HWP0002,0,PNP0A03)/Pci(2|1)/Usb(0, 0)
VMS: EIA0 00-1A-4B-06-FB-A4
EFI: Acpi(HWP0002,400,PNP0A03)/Pci(2|0)/Mac(001A4B06FBA4)
VMS: EIB0 00-1A-4B-06-FB-A5
EFI: Acpi(HWP0002,400,PNP0A03)/Pci(2|1)/Mac(001A4B06FBA5)

Re: RX6xxx Itanium Server Console
you can use the EFI command: map -r to search for disk devices seen by EFI. Accessable disks should show up as fs and/or blk devices.
If the internal disk does not show up, check for the SCSI controller. You may want to look for the RX6xxx documentation at the HP web site.

SolutionDo you know what the exact hardware configuration is? Which SAS controllers do you have? How many drives and which slots are they in?
By default the rx6600 has a single internal 8 port SAS controller, from which you can create 2x mirrored arrays of 2 drives each, designate a hot spare and have 3 drives as plain discs. By default only the upper 8 slots are active. The lower 8 slots are not connected to anything unless you ordered the extra SAS controllers.
See the "HP Product Bulletin" and the "quick specs" for orderable configuration details. Get it here: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/productbulletin.html#intro
You configure the SAS drives with "drvcfg" at the EFI prompmt. See the rx6600 documentation and SAS controller documentation. See here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManualтМй=en&cc=uk&docIndexId=691860&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3257036
Don't forget to do the firmware updates too if applicable. See here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=uk&prodNameId=3257037&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3257036&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=54
You'll find the rx6600 documentation at
You might find these useful: http://www.downloads.xdelta.co.uk/decus%20uk%202005/rx2600%20bare%20metal%20install%2001mar2005%20issue%201%2028feb2005.pdf and http://www.downloads.xdelta.co.uk/hp_nl_vmstud_2007/2007_10_02-nl_vmstud_porting-colin_butcher-v1_2.pdf
If you still have trouble then your reseller should be able to help you, or if all else fails consider getting someone in to assist you and teach you how to do this stuff. As you've discovered - it's all rather different to working on Alphas! It's a bit of an exercise in finding information by trawling around the HP web site using well guessed search phrases. The machine should also have come with some documentation too.
Cheers, Colin (http://www.xdelta.co.uk).

Re: RX6xxx Itanium Server Console
from your Forum Profile:
I have assigned points to 28 of 81 responses to my questions.
Maybe you can find some time to do some assigning?
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#33
Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!
To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption "My Question(s)" you will find "questions or topics with unassigned points " Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.
If you have closed some of those streams, you must "Reopen" them to "Submit points". (After which you can "Close" again)
Do not forget to explicitly activate "Submit points", or your effort gets lost again!!
Thanks on behalf of your Forum colleagues.
PS. - nothing personal in this. I try to post it to everyone with this kind of assignment ratio in this forum. If you have received a posting like this before - please do not take offence - none is intended!
PPS. - Zero points for this.
Proost.
Have one on me.

The rx6600 is a bit like the rx2660 with the internal 8 port SAS controller.

I have made the experience with the rx2660's SAS controller that drives can only be configured using either a locally attached keyboard and monitor or the iLO connection because of the "Press
