Raid level in the internal array controllers (integrity and HPUX 11.23)

Hi Folks,

How can I disable a RAID 1 level factory configured in the rx2660 with 2x72 GB disk (RAID 1 ) in the VG00 and use the discs with no RAID level to get more space ( for example , creating VG01 )?
Is it possible after we install hpux 11.23 with RAID level enable or not ?

Thanks in advance .

Re: Raid level in the internal array controllers (integrity and HPUX 11.23)

What you have is known as hardware raid. The two internal disks are bound into a RAID-1 mirrored pair by the RAID controller card before the OS sees them. So the OS does not see the two disk drives, it only sees the RAID-1 volume.

To disable it, you have to break up the mirrored pair and allow each of the two drives to be seen by the server individually. You have to get in the the RAID controller, either from the EFI before you boot the server or from the array management software in /opt/sas/??? or something similar.

I am guessing you would have to do this from the EFI since the boot device will change. I don't know if you can still boot from one drive by itself after the break up, I don't see why not. You interrupt the auto boot and point to the new single drive device.

I assume you are willing to live without the redundancy if you need the space.

Prepare an ignite tape befor the break-up just in case.
