Post
# ioscan -fn
The "normal" SAS controller can do 2 mirrored pairs on hardware level, no RAID 5.
LVM can do mirrors, but also no RAID 5.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

SolutionThe best way to do this is with the hardware RAID controller that is built into that server.
You can boot into it and will see a prompt for F8 function key, just like on say a DL380 server.
The interface is pretty good.
Software raid costs money and will slow your system down.

Re: Raid1 and Raid5 configuration.
Boot the system.
Press F8 when the smart array prompt comes up.
Its got for a hardware based system a relatively intuitive interface.
Just make a plan before you start.
reserve two disks to form a hardware raid 1 boot disk set. To maximize system reliability.
The rest deploy in your raid 5 group to maximize storage.
Note that if you plan any heavy write databases on local disk they benefit in performance from not being raid 5 but being raid 1. Mostly read databases will benefit from sitting on raid 5.

Try to press ESC 8 instead of F8.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.
