Re: Remote Consol Login

Can I assume the system is up and running and you CAN connect via telnet ?

The last item on the screen shows it is still booting the kernel. Typically you would see a Login: prompt.

Re: Remote Consol Login

You can also return to the MP and choose CL to look at the console logs. If you do not see all the standard bootup stuff and it ends at the Launching /stand/vmunix then your system is stuck loading the kernel.

Re: Remote Consol Login

Yes sytem is up and running if I use cl command nothing comes .

At the time of installtion Hardware enginner pointed out follwing error

"HI, The following is the message during the boot of HPUX, it seems needed a selection before it will goes on.
I enter and it return with OK and continues the boot process until system is ready.

Usage:/sbin/rc3.d/s900sapinit{stop/start/restart/} Term=(hp)

Thanks "

Re: Remote Consol Login

After the "CO" try or enter.

Log in via telnet. ps -ef|grep getty ( look for getty process running on the console ). You can also kill that getty process, it will restart automatically ( maybe it is stuck ).

The sapinit message looks like the start script for SAP has an error in it but it is a run level 3 script so it should not effect your console login.

Re: Remote Consol Login

I did /sbin/init.d/sapinit start

I after that server times press cont c and enter key . I'm not sure what was the reason but I got little sucess now if I run " CO " and then get something after ctrEcf get " [bumped user - Admin]" and then system again hanges ( no response ) finally I use to contb to come aagin at consol login

CL: Console Log
SL: Show Event Logs
HE: Main Help Menu
X: Exit Connection

Re: Remote Consol Login

This is the normal behaviour... after co u will get CtrlEcf.. that means u have to press these keys then u will get console access. Since only one can write to console at a time so to get full access press Ctrl + Ecf... then u should get login prompt.
Time has a wonderful way of weeding out the trivial

Re: Remote Consol Login

Hi Salm,

This is absolutely normal.

[Read only - use Ctrl-Ecf for console write access.]

^Ecf====Force control of the console interface.

To execute the ^Ecf command complete the following steps:

1.Press the Cntrl key and the e key simultaneously.
2.Release the Cntrl key and the e key.
3.Press the c key.
4.Press the f key.

Re: Remote Consol Login

Could you explain your statement "Recently installed new ILO cards"? Was another ILO card installed as HP-UX was installed or was there never a ILO card installed before in this server?

I'm thinking that a change in the hardware configuration is causing this problem. The info in ioconfig might not match your current configuration.
There is a procedure available to modify/update/recreate this ioconfig file but first it should be clear that the config did change as a result of the new ILO card installation.

Did you also check the mapping of the console input and output devices? This might cause the boot to continue without anything being displayed.
