SCSI compatibility between RX2620-2 core IO SCSI and 1x8 G2 Autoloader

Hi,

We have an RX2620-2 with a 68 pin HDTS SCSI connector at the back, which I beleive is connected to the secondary channel of the core IO Ultra320 SCSI controller. The primary channel is used for the two internal disks. The connector is labelled "SCSI LVD/SE".

We also have a 1x8 G2 Autoloader with an Ultrium-3 drive connected to the above connector using a C2924C cable. In the documentation for the autoloader it says that "Never attach an LTO-3 or LTO-4 tape drive to an SE SCSI bus".

Is this an "unwanted/unsupported/wrong" configuration ?

Thanks is advance,

You should be OK. The connector is labeled as LVD/SE as the LVD bus is backward compatible with Single Ended SCSI devices.

You will be attaching an LVD device to an LVD bus and that is a supported configuration.

Also know that any SE devices attached to an LVD bus will force the bus to operate at the SE level, bringing any LVD devices down with it.

A basic rule for this is to not mix LVD and SE on the same bus.

Bob
