Telnet to MP on Rx8640 not working

Hi,

We have an RX8640 with the Management processor connected to the LAN. Before we have been able to Telnet to the management processor and work with no problems. Now when we try and Telnet to the port, it does not connect - the session just hangs. We can ping the management processor and the activity LEDs show activity. We do not want to reboot the server just to solve this. Any suggestions as to what is happening would be appreciated.

Thanks
Andrew

Rebooting the server does not reset MP. Try to reset the MP by pressing reset switch, or connect to MP by serial terminal and diagnose problem.

Re: Telnet to MP on Rx8640 not working

1. Check your cable connections.

2. Check that both ports (server & switch) are running at the same speed. This may require getting with network person to check switch port.

3. Check resolution to MP port:
nslookup
nslookup

Make sure you get the same results. If not start checking hostfile and DNS.

Just a couple thoughts to get you started.

Re: Telnet to MP on Rx8640 not working

Since this server supports a MP failover, I would connect to serial now on both MPs. Has the second MP a LAN cable attached?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Telnet to MP on Rx8640 not working

Thanks,

We went Ctrl/B to the MP console, then did a reset of the MP without a reboot server.
