Upgrade rx4640 from 2x 1.5GHz single core to 2x 1.6GHz dual core procs

Hi all,

This weekend I will be up upgrading our rx4640 which currently has two single core 1.5GHz Itanium 2 processors.  We have purchased (2) 1.6GHz Itanium 2 dual core processors to replace the existing 1.5GHz procs.  There used to be an rx4640 server upgrade guide that talked about upgrading from a single core proc to dual core proc. However, I looked everywhere and it appears the manual is gone.  The only place where I found it was manualshark.org, but has a dead link.

Anyway, I am sure there will be an OS and or firmware upgrade I will need to do.  I will update all components to the latest firmware revisions and apply the latest 11.23 OS patches.  Outside of that, I don't foresee any issues and should be a pretty easy upgrade.  Is there anything I missing?  Like recompiling the kernel, modifying kernel parameters, etc?

Thanks in advance!

Just make sure to have latest firmware and patches.

Check the dip switches on the I/O board - there are 2x 4 dip switches. the switch in front must be off, the remaining 7 switches on.

Hope this helps!

Hi ,

Please find the image of DIP Switches settings in Base board of rx4640.

rx4640 - DIP Switch setting

After upgrading the processor, verify it with shell command info cpu, if threads are disabled, enabled the same using cpuconfig command.
