Hi all,
Now I use the HP-UX 11.23 run on itanuim server. I have any question about temperature sensor.
1) What happen if the temperature is higher than sensor?
- force power down without shutdown? or
- force "shutdown -hy 0"?
2) Can we set the value of temperature sensor?
Best Regards.

Solution
Hi,
1) The server will warn you, will do a shutdown and a power off, depending on the temperature value. see "man envd".
2) It's not a common use of a sensor to set the values manually ;-)
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: What happen if the temperature is higher than sensor?
Torsten's answer is correct for PA systems, but for Itanium systems, this is what happens:
There are 3 levels of over-temp, Low, Medium and High.
When Low is exceeded, an EMS notification from fpl_em is triggered (on some system types, it might be ia64_corehw, I'm not completely sure).
When Medium is exceeded, the OS will be requested to initiate a shutdown by the firmware, without using 'envd' at all, so the command is not configurable, and no EMS can be logged.
If High is reached, the system is switched off.
The actual values for Low, Medium and High will depend on the specific hardware.
This is not well documented currently (e.g. on the envd man page for IA), but should be improved in future.
