Re: What kind of i/o is SAF-TE

SAF-TE is a monitoring interface. usually it is used to monitor an external JBOD. Of ten the SAF-TE interface is used to montitor power supplies, temperature and, voltage. I believe it is also used to montor whether various disks are plugged in. It can also report insertion & removal of drives, etc.

Re: What kind of i/o is SAF-TE

Hi ,

as Rick already pointed out, SAF-TE is a standard used to manage/monitor hardware, more in particular hard disk backplanes. So this SAF-TE you see in the list with IOScan is a representation of the management processor in the RX4640 disk backplane that does all this monitoring functionality.
This is a default component on the disk backplane and is not a raid controller on its own, a raid controller is a option you have to buy for the RX4640.

Re: What kind of i/o is SAF-TE

Hi,

The server don't have a RAID card.
It have probably the ds2300 external disk system connected ro rx4640. You should switch the dip switches on ds2300 BCCs to SES mode (not SAF-TE).
Read the following doc page 85:
