can i put other itanium CPU on rx1600?

Hey,

There are so many used Itanium CPUs sold on the second hand market and they are dirt cheap. I am just wondering if i can replace my 1.0G 1.5M CPU with a better one, say, 1.5G or 1.3G.

I understand this is not listed in HP's manual, they only say it can support 1.0G, but Did anyone ever try it and could you share your experience?

Thank you!

Re: can i put other itanium CPU on rx1600?

The rx1620 actually supported 1.3 GHz CPUs. At one level that suggests that stuffing 1.3's into your rx1600 is plausible, but frankly, I think you would be better off finding an rx1620.

I don't think that 1.5 GHz processors were ever supported in the rx1620, so I would be very suspicious of the thermals matching with 1.5s in an rx1600.
