can rx6600 boot by tape?

Rx6600,HP-UX 11.23,can it boot by tape? I don't have a 11.23 DVD media, it would be trouble it had to boot by DVD if I had to restore OS by tape backup.

Yes, you can boot from tape. You can create bootable OS image using make_tape_recovery from Ignite-UX software bundle.

I got this confusion because I had deal with Integrity Server before with early version of 11.23, and it could not boot from tape.

All Integrity servers can boot from tape.
Probably you had deal with server with old firmware.

I mean directly boot from tape, not be boot throught DVD media, check this make_tape_recovery messages:
WARNING: You are about to create an Itanium-based recovery tape. If this system does NOT support direct tape boot, you will need to perform "two-step media recovery" where the boot media (CD or DVD) has the same version of Ignite-UX as the version on this tape.

No, not true.


Some older servers and blades cannot, but the rx6600 can.

Torsten is right. Older servers (eg. rx2600) have not EFI SCSI Tape Driver and can't boot directly from tape. rx6600 has EFI SCSI Tape Driver, so can boot.

new BL8x0c i2 blades have no currently official support to boot from tape. But are you sure that previous generation BL860c and BL870c can't boot from tape?
