firmware upgrade

Hello People,

I am having a firmware upgrade being done by HP on by 8640 box. Somehow we have this experience that it goes and corrupts the vpars, and hp still has no reason for this. I want to know when firmware upgrade is done can i disconnect my boot disks so that nothing wrong happens on the boot disks.Does firmware upgrade does anything on the OS boot disk also at the efi level .

Thanks
Jake

Re: firmware upgrade

"Does firmware upgrade does anything on the OS boot disk ...".

No.

Depending on the method of update sometimes a file is copied to the EFI area and executed - that's it.

What version of vPars and HP-UX do you run?

Example: hp-ux 11.13 and vPars A.04.06.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: firmware upgrade

Your vPars version is already unsupported, see

http://docs.hp.com/en//1705/oc.pdf

chapter 3.6 Obsolescence of vPars Releases

Consider to update!

Maybe you have a problem between firm- and software, who knows ...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: firmware upgrade

Hi Jake,

As Torsten pointed out it depends. This update is performed offline with the o/s down and power off. This upgrade also addresses some EFI boot management issues. Please see the release notes for specific information:

Re: firmware upgrade

Hi Jake,

Was just wondering which version you were upgrading to and from. i.e going to V4.1 from...

Also which method were you using to update the firmware.

- MP initiated using an FTP server

or

- CD image (.iso)

Thanks,

Marc
