how to make a firmware cd for rx7620

Hi...got an rx7620 with no os installed...require to update FC fw for A9784A pcas installed.

Downloaded fw from hp uk & copied to bootable cd using nero.

In EFI shell can cd to fs0: ( cd drive ) & when I ls I only get DOS files...no fw.

Explored the cd on my pc & the files are there.

Any ideas???

What, exactly, did you download?
How, exactly, did you make the CD?
("bootable"? On what?)

Do you use this?

Hope this helps!

Re: how to make a firmware cd for rx7620

If you have no OS on the rx7620 already (given the age of that system it seems a trifle odd but still...) you will want an ISO image to burn to the CD as an image, not as a collection of files.

Otherwise, at the risk of HP-UX and Linux wanting different firmware versions or Linux not supporting some of the cards and so it not having firmware, you might explore downloading an Integrity Essentials image or the latest "Smart Setup" CD image, buring that (again as an image rather than a collection of files) to disc and using that to effect the firmware update.

I happen to run Linux and used the 5.0.5 SmartSetup CD on some rx1620s. Wasn't looking to see if the rx7620 was still supported by that version, but chances are it was.

Re: how to make a firmware cd for rx7620

Brian,

you are after upgrading the f/w and EFI driver of that FC HBA, did you looked at this ? :

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=421119&prodNameId=421118&swEnvOID=54&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ux-36358-2

If your system has a VGA/USB card installed then you can put the files on a USB memory stick and run the upgrade procedure as explained in Installation Instructions under the section called "Updating Firmware from EFI shell"

If you don't have such VGA/USB card but do have a EFI system partition on the hard disk then you could manually launch a TCP/IP network stack and FTP the files from some FTP server where you put those files on and download them onto the EFI system partition and execute the upgrade.

If you are not sure, provide us the output of the 'map' command that you can run at the EFI shell.

If you don't have a EFI system partition at all on your hard drive yet, then download the Smart Setup cd from i.e. the URL below and boot from it and pretend to do a windows OS installation whereby one of the preparation steps is to create the EFI System partition (any other OS installation also creates the EFI system partition automatically if it does not exist yet).

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=447687&swItem=is-53769-1&prodNameId=346366&swEnvOID=1060&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=0

Do this and then restart the system when it asks for the Windows cdrom, doing so will give you at least a EFI system partition where you can launch the network stack from to connect to a FTP server to download the firmware files for your FC HBA card as explained above.

since this FC HBA is only supported under HP-UX and Linux, you could try the Linux smart setup cd which maybe has the firmware upgrade for that card included in the EBSU utility, the one mentioned above for Windows does not hold the f/w files for that card because that card is not supported under Windows.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=447687&prodNameId=346366&swEnvOID=2027&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ux-61389-1

If you could install the OS you want on this system first, then it is all easier because you can mount the EFI system partition from the OS and copy the firmware files that way, then reboot to EFI shell and perform the upgrade. That is explained per OS in the installation instructions.

Re: how to make a firmware cd for rx7620

Brian,

if you want to burn a cd for a Integrity server then the CD file system cannot be CDFS, it needs to be a 'special' CD with a FAT or FAT32 partition on it, these are the only two file formats the EFI shell can recognize.

Make sure to look for the right options in your cd burner s/w.
