hp rx4640 MP upgrading

We have Smart Start CD version 5.5 which is not updating MP version E.02.23 of rx4640 to version E.03.15.

I downloaded MP versions E.02.26 and version E.02.29, which are of tar.gz files.

I followed the following steps:
(i) SmartStart5.5--> Firmware Update--->from Supplementary Disc.
(ii) removed the SmartStart5.5 CD
(iii) put the CD containing E.02.26 and E.02.29 .tar.gz files.
(iv) But, I am unable to browse the CD to update MP firmware.

As I have run SmartStart-->Express Setup, I have no OS in the server.

Please advise me how to make/get the bootable E.02.26 and E.02.29 cds to update offline.

Re: hp rx4640 MP upgrading

I don't know what files do you have.

AFAIR the only format was the MP initiated update via FTP.

So put them on a FTP server and follow the release notes to update.

Hope this helps!

Re: hp rx4640 MP upgrading

The MP firmware is usually distributed in ISO, EFI and FTP formats. Unfortunately the version E.02.26 doesn't seem available in ISO format( to make a CD ) or in EFI format on the HP BSC website. So only option you have is to use FTP format with initiation from MP for that version. For following following version, you may use the same method afterward.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=88837&swItem=ns-13752-3&prodNameId=346361&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=0

The Smart Start will only detect pre-defined file format. So it wouldn't take tar.gz file as input. Secondly I doubt Smart start supports iLO firmware update on Integrity servers because it supports Proliant servers per my understanding.

Re: hp rx4640 MP upgrading

Smartstart is for Proliants only, there is a SmartSetup for Integrities, but I don't know if there is system firmware on it.

As said, locate the MP initiated firmware files and perform the update as written in the release notes.

Hope this helps!

Re: hp rx4640 MP upgrading

We tried to update MP version E.02.23 to E.02.26 through FTP. It downloaded the files and Progress went up to 35%. But later reported that upgrading failed and firmware reported that is in "UNSTABLE" status and not to reset MP console. We tried many times. But there is no option other than resetting MP. Now the MP Self Test LED glows in "AMBER" and MP HeartBeat LED is off. We lost our MP console connectivity and no display also from the server. Please advise us.

Re: hp rx4640 MP upgrading

If you cannot get an MP prompt after this reset or even a power cycle the MP is likely dead and needs replacement.
Something went wrong, but I don't know what you did ...

Hope this helps!
