not able to login through MP console--Urgent reply

Dear Gurus,

I am unable to login thru MP console on my Itanium hpux server.after giving from MP ,it is not displaying anything...server is up and running fine.i am able to telnet/ssh to that server.i found some process (ps -ef | grep console) is running,even i killed (kill -9 pid) ,still not able to loging through MP console.what may be the problem.a reboot can solve it or need to something else ..pls reply ..

Hi skr,

--> From the desktop
click Start >Programs>Accessories>Communications>HyperTerminal.

The Connection Description window will be displayed. Enter a name(Servername) for the description, and click OK.

After that the Connect To window will be displayed , Select the Communication Port(COM1 or which port your are using) through a serial cable, then click OK.
The COM1 Properties window will be displayed. Select 9600 for the Bits Per Second, 8 for Data Bits, None for Parity, 1 for Stop Bits, and None for Flow Control, then click OK. Press the Enter key to access the console switch option menu.

It will ask for USername/Passwd.

hi,

sounds like the MP has hung, what model server is it?

you can reset it with something like this

stty +resetGSP < /dev/GSPdiag1

and you can check the status with

stty +queryGSP < /dev/GSPdiag1

be better if you were on the local console though.

if we knew what server it is, there is usually a reset button on the mp card

and the process is running is

if killed also ,the is listing there.still not going to console login..

your MP seems to be in hung position.

--> reset MP with "CM>XD>"

Hi,

What type of console are you using now? serial, VGA, web? Or was your console working fine from the first? Or did you change the EFI console configuration before the problem started? You can describe the problem history more clearly and then we can understand your problem.

You have been able to access MP and could type CO command. So it means your MP is wirking. If your primary console is VGA and you are attempting to access the serial console for HP-UX OS, it makes sense. All HP-UX message is redirected to the VGA console.

It's been a long time since there was any activity on this thread but I thought I'd respond since I ran into the same problem and found this unanswered.

If anyone else has no response from the console on the mp, try this...

ps -ef | grep console

Once you find the offending process, use kill -9 (otherwise it won't go away).

This should return you to the login prompt.

We did kernel update in our server and after rebooting it, we could not ssh to the server not login to the EFI shell. 

So the MP console just hung. 

I spent 4 hours on this issue, finally after finding your answer I was able to bring it to life.

Do you know what is the reason MP hangs?
