problems trying to install HP-UX 11.23 on rx2600

I am tying to install HP-UX 11.23 on a rx2600 with the media. I have tried the March 2003 and Sept 2004 media both with the same results. The install stops with the error message:
Cannot find the disk referenced by the primary boot path: "" in /tmp/hw.info
The default chosen for the root disk may not be correct
press to continue.

I checked the file mentioned above, it looks like all devices have been discovered on the system. I then looked at the file /tmp/host.info which I think is the problem. At the bottom of that file:
_hp_primary_path=""
_hp_primary_path visible_if false

Also in the /tmp/install.log:
NOTE: Primary path not currently set to an existing disk device.

Does anyone know what the correct format of _hp_primary_path variable should be? If this is the problem and the file is corrected, how would I resume the install?

Hi Kevin,

before installing HP-UX 11.23, you should update the firmware in your rx2600.
The current firmware is available from:

Hello,

Thanks for the suggestion, but all firmware on the system is current. I believe the problem is with Ignite-UX Core media installer and the incorrect variable assigned to _hp_primary_path as mentioned in the original post.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Kevin,

I've successfully installed HP-UX 11.23 from Oct 2003 media. You can try this media.

Original March 2004 media was buggy and you should use the replacements. See the doc:

I don't have any experience with Sept 2004 media.

One more suggestion - put the HDD in slot 0.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. Come to find out, the problem was with the laptop I was using and hyperterm. I patched the laptop with XP SP2 (an old laptop just used as a console). I tried the 11.23 install after the XP patch and the install started to work. The screen never stopped before at the point in the install where it asked if you want to install or recover. Anyways, I have been able to install Sept 2004 HP-UX 11.23 TCOE successfully on one system and is in progress on another system now.
