processor
Hi All,
We are in the plan for tech refresh for our customer from pa-risc to itanium. Our existing servers are rp 7420.The processors are spread across 2 cells and total number is 6(single core).
We are planning to go for itanium model(rx 8640) .Could you please tell me whether using 3 dual core CPUs or 6 single core CPU is more efficient.Which option will give best performance results

Re: processor
Thanks for your reply. My concern is if we use 3*dual core CPUs for replacing the 6 single core CPUs on the existing server. Will it provide equivalent performance from CPU perspoctive

New CPUs are probably much faster than your "old" machine.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: processor
Let me explain more .My concern is about the number of CPUs/core.Whether three new dualcore processors can replace 6 single core processors.

Re: processor
Consider to buy at least 2 cells, otherwise you cannot use all the I/O slots.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: processor
3 dual core is better solution if you need to upgrade the number of cpu, but if its single core or dual core its doesn;t mather.
mikap
in my opinion you should buy a dual core cpu's
