processor

Hi All,

We are in the plan for tech refresh for our customer from pa-risc to itanium. Our existing servers are rp 7420.The processors are spread across 2 cells and total number is 6(single core).

We are planning to go for itanium model(rx 8640) .Could you please tell me whether using 3 dual core CPUs or 6 single core CPU is more efficient.Which option will give best performance results

Re: processor

Current CPUs for this system are all dual core (Intel 9000 or 9100 series).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: processor

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. My concern is if we use 3*dual core CPUs for replacing the 6 single core CPUs on the existing server. Will it provide equivalent performance from CPU perspoctive

New CPUs are probably much faster than your "old" machine.

Hope this helps!

Re: processor

Hello,

Let me explain more .My concern is about the number of CPUs/core.Whether three new dualcore processors can replace 6 single core processors.

Re: processor

The number of cores will be the same, the new CPUs will be much faster.

Consider to buy at least 2 cells, otherwise you cannot use all the I/O slots.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

PS : the same number of procesors ( or cores ),
will be much powerfull.

Re: processor

Hi All

I am again repeating..Whether 6*single core CPU=3*dual core CPU ????I want 6 CPUs(speed not cosdiering now) in my new machine.Whether I should go with 6 individual processors or 3*dual core processors.

Re: processor

hi,

3 dual core is better solution if you need to upgrade the number of cpu, but if its single core or dual core its doesn;t mather.

mikap

in my opinion you should buy a dual core cpu's

Re: processor

Since you can only buy dual-cores, there is no need to repeat the question again and again ... only dual-cores are available nowadays.

Hope this helps!
