Can I check if anyone know whether I can split the internal harddisk sas disk 3.5 inch 146GB to two controller namely smart array p400 integrated for 2 x 146GB for OS and additional smart array 6402 for 6 x 146GB for data. Can this be configure on the server. If can, can I know if by removing one of the scsi attach cable from the integrated port B and connect to the smart array 6402 will I be able to see all the disk. Please advice ???
OS current 11.23

SolutionThe internal disks are SAS and the P400 is a SAS smart array controller.
The sa6402 is only SCSI - SAS connectors won't fit and this is another technology.
I wonder why you want to do this.
The P400 will work fine with the internal drives.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: re : rx2660
HP-UX does not permit a disk to be in two volume groups.
You can with your smart array card set up disk groups in many ways, however a disk can not be split between groups.

Re: re : rx2660
Sorry, my mistake the server is rx2660 and yeah you are rite I forgot that smart array 6402 is only meant for scsi disk. What if I have this scenerio, I have an additional p400 smart array controller which I was told the integrated one cannot support raid five configuration so I bought another one which can support raid 5 is there a way that I don't have to re-install the os and leave the existing raid 1 intact and create another raid 5 on the additional 6 x 146GB disk. Or alternative is there a way to migrate the raid from one controller to another . Pls advice???

The clean way to do this is to backup the data, change the card, configure the RAIDs you need and restore the backup.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: re : rx2660
Whether or not driving different subsets of the 8 disc bays with separate p400's would _work_ is an interesting question. First, it requires that one can partition the bays - that there are two cables suggests it might be possible, however that leads to the next issue - you might have trouble routing the cables. I'm not sure if it is even possible to route the cables from a card in the i/o cage to the disc bays in the first place.
Also, wrt support for RAID5, I'm wondering if there wasn't some other confusion. The rx2660 normally ships (well, depending on the OS you chose) with an embedded LSI1068. That can do IIRC a pair of RAID1's and then the rest JBOD. Ordering options will get you a P400 added in the PCIe x4 mobo slot. I seem to recall that that p400 can indeed do RAID5 based on what I _recall_ seeing in the firmware when I've been creating logical discs - however I only just create single-mech logical discs so I don't pay _that_ much attention.
So, it is possible that there is confusion between the embedded LSI1068 and the p400.

Re: re : rx2660
Thanks for the support and info, anyway I have succeeded in reconfiguring the rx2660 with the new p400 controller and currently the volume is split between a pair of raid 1 and a set of raid 5 disk.
