rx1620 & core lan adapter not detected
Hi!!
I have a server rx1620 (product number: AB430A - Serial Number MYJ*******).
I have upgraded to System 04.27, BMC 04.01 and iLO MP E.03.30 and installed a second processor (both processors are same revision and version).
I have 2x1GB memory modules and an additional FC interface card (not used).
ALL test with ODE diagnostic offline environment seems OK but...
both the core NICs (rear ports LAN A and LAN B) are not detected!!!
Every "NIC related" test or command or utilities reports "no available lan" or "Not found".
Also devtree command is not reporting any NIC device.
I tried also the system firmware revision 04.13 and results are the same.
The front panel LAN LED is solid green either I connect a cable to lan ports or not connect.
LEDs on ports on rear panel are always off either a cable is connected or is not connected.
I checked cables and switch port.
Seems like NICs are "not enabled to be detected" from efi acpi.
Any suggestions??
Thank you in advance.
Andrea

Re: rx1620 & core lan adapter not detected
If not, could you sent this?
EFI> devices
EFI> devtree
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: rx1620 & core lan adapter not detected
Hi and thank you for your quick reply!!!
Actually there is not OS. I would try "debian 6.0.5".
I realized issues with NICs when I first launched debian installer and it reports "no network adapter".
When I try
EFI>devices
EFI>devtree
it seems does not reports anything about "NICs".

Furthermore I noticed fron panel LAN LED is solid green also when the rx1620 is power off, but attached to power socket.
it seems strange both the core NICs (one Broadcom and the other Intel) are "damaged" at the same time.
Is there some jumper, switch, battery or trick to which I have not thought??
Notice that the Broadcom driver is loaded at boot as the server, at startup, reports it.
Antything else seems OK.
I do not know much about this type of server, is it normal the LAN LED behavoir??
Thank you!!

Re: rx1620 & core lan adapter not detected
Sorry, I forgotten...
Is there a way to reset the hardware configuration and possibly to restart hardware detection??
Or is hardware detection done every time the server is started??
I just tried "defaul" command and nothing has changed.
Again thank you!!

This would be the LAN entry.
While booting, you should see lines like this:
...
Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Broadcom Corporation
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet EFI driver v7.0.3
...
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (BCM5701) is detected (PCI)
...
However, both LANs on the systemboard are a single chip that can fail. No way to enable/disable. All hardware will be "searched" while starting up the server.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: rx1620 & core lan adapter not detected
I can see
...
Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Broadcom Corporation
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet EFI driver v7.0.3
...
so the EFI driver are loaded, but the other line
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (BCM5701) is detected (PCI)
is not showed...
Do you think the hardware is failing??
Is there a way to diagnose a failure other than ODE (which show simply "not found")??

Re: rx1620 & core lan adapter not detected
And what about the front panel LAN LED always solid green??
Also if I disconnect the mp lan and the LAN A and LAN B the LED is solid green...
Do you think is plenty to finally say there is a NICs failure??

Re: rx1620 & core lan adapter not detected
Disconnecting LAN cables will not change the front LEDs - there is no reason for doing this.
Assuming the LAN device is dead - what should the diagnostic tell other than it is missing?
It could help to boot the offline diagnostics CD and run ODE and inside ODE "mapper" to see the status.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Is it not really strange that any other test on any devices is OK??
Either the POST test (running front LEDs) and other ODE diagnostic reports all is OK, but...
I cant see any LAN devices.
At the end do you think I cannot do anything else??
Is there any "hardware inspection" I can do??
Anyway thank you for your support!!

Re: rx1620 & core lan adapter not detected
In the case the core NICs are faulty, and considering I use the rx1620 as a "hobby platform", do you think I can use a standard PCI 32bit/33Mhz NIC in server??
The rx1620 spec sheet reports PCI 3.3v compatibility.
I would use a standard cheap realtek based gigabit nic, what are the problems that may arise??
I would use "Linux Debian 6.0.5" that should support realtek adapter, at least in i386 and x86_64 version.
Maybe I could have a second spare system board for rx1620...but I am not really sure this "new" one is working, but I would use the IA64 platform for EPIC development test.
What do you think about that??
Thank you for your patience.
Andrea
