rx2600 - san boot and setup

I'm new to integrity. I'm having following problems:

a.) San boot - I was able to install the OS on an EVA san lun, but server doesn't boot up. EVA lun address is set as primary boot address, but when it comes to booting, it fails. Almost acts as if fibre is not initiated at that point and can't find path. Any ideas?
b.) I have a serial cable connected to 9-pin serial RS232 connector labeled 'console' in the right hand corner when facing the back. When I do a ctrl-b, I don't get any response. The key is in unlocked position. Any ideas?
c.) How do I change the primary boot path and scan for equivalent to 'sea ipl' in the old days
d.) Anybody have a quick guide to the integrity boot menu?

thanks

Re: rx2600 - san boot and setup

You didn't mention about
OS? , EVA model? , FC HBA part number?

However,I would recommend to go through the FC San Boot Guide at for Windows OS
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00273380/c00273380.pdf

The 9-pin serial port is used for accessing BMC ( Baseboard Management Controller ) interface which also offers console capability. There would be 25-pin serial port beside it which is MP serial console port. On this port, the would work.
Refer the Operations Guide at

Re: rx2600 - san boot and setup

Hi:

a)How you tried to install the operating system? I think that the best form is installing on a internal disk, mirroring with EVA disk and then, remove internal disk.

b)Try pressing during 3 seconds Ctrl^D

c) and d)http://docs.hp.com/en/AB331-90008/ch03s01.html

Re: rx2600 - san boot and setup

Sameer/Miguel, thanx for yur responses. I was afraid of the 25-pin dongle...To answer your questions - I'm trying to install HP-UX 11iv2 on a EVA 5k running firmware 3.0.28 w/ HBA is A6795A.

Thanks

Re: rx2600 - san boot and setup

WRT the "W" cable and the 25-pin connector on the MP, there is nothing to fear but fear itself :)

If you don't have the proper "W" cable, my recollection is that the standard tx, rx and gnd for a "normal" 25-pin RS232 will get you to what you would reach via the tail labled "Console" on the "W" cable.

Re: rx2600 - san boot and setup

In general, you'll want to make sure that the firmware on both the rx26xx and the HBA is up to date.
