rx2600 upgrade trouble

Hello,

I have a rx2600 server which I'm trying to upgrade to rx2620. I followed the upgrade guide but the system won't boot anymore after the upgrade was done.

I get this error -

Error[55] : Invalid or inaccessible system ID(s)

The sysset command shows -

System Information:
Manufacturer: hp
Product Name: server rx2620
Product Number: AB331A
Secondary Product Number is Valid - Different
Serial number: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Secondary Serial Number is Valid - Different
UUID: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Valid)
Secondary UUID is Valid - Different
Product ID: 0x11A

I don't have a support contract.  Does anyone how to fix this problem?

Thanks

Re: rx2600 upgrade trouble

The problem is you have used boards, so the values cannot be copied.

Only hp can fix this.

Hope this helps!

Re: rx2600 upgrade trouble

To work around this you may be able to boot manually from the EFI Shell.

When at the menu, select EFI SHELL, which should take you to a prompt.

No type in 'FS0:' to go to the FS0 drive, which should be a bootable drive.

Next type in 'hpux' to boot.

Re: rx2600 upgrade trouble

You need to copy UUID after the upgrade. I don't remember what message appears after the first system DC power on. But it should ask if you copy the UUID or system ID. The upgrade system board UUID has been set to the magic ID (xxx).

Step 1. Power on the system.
a. Reconnect AC power to rear panel connectors.
b. Press the front panel power switch to power on the server.

Step 2. Restore the product, serial and UUID IDs.
a. Answer Yes to the copy prompt displayed during system power on.
b. Reboot the server

I think the readme first document is shipped with the upgrade kit if you purchased a regular upgrade product. Or you can request support to HP.  If you have purchased the upgrade kit from third party or some non-HP reseller, you need to contact them.

Re: rx2600 upgrade trouble

Thanks.  The system board was changed and that fixed the problem.

So If a system board or display board gets bad, it seems  you just can't replace with another used working board.  I don't know about the "magic" stuff but this would be an issueI think as I don't know how to set them up "magic" and buying boards with "magic".

Re: rx2600 upgrade trouble

Well, it is unclear how you could resolve your issue. If the replacement system board was shipped from HP, all boards will be shipped with the default system IDs (xxxxx). So you should see the same symptom with a new replacement system board and the system will ask you the system ID copy.

At any rate, I am happy you could resolve your issue yourself.

Re: rx2600 upgrade trouble

The system stores serial# etc in 2 different locations. The values are checked during boot. If you replaced the board and this board as empty (magic) values, the system will copy the values to the new board. If the values are already set on the "new" board, it cannot copy and you have the issue you currently see.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: rx2600 upgrade trouble

So if the display board or the system board goes bad, you just can't use other board from a different machine?  Do I have to go back to the reseller or HP for that every time?

Correct.

>> Do I have to go back to the reseller or HP for that every time?

Everytime ... with more than 100 servers we lost 2 or 3 boards in all the years.

Hope this helps!
