Hello,
I've a rx2620 server bought on Ebay. It's pretty noisy so I want to upgrade it to OFS. What I read so far that it needs a setting change on the server besides changing the fans.
Does anyone know what that setting is and how to change it?
Many thanks!

Re: rx2620 OFS upgrade
Not that obvious. Have a look at HoffmanLabs: http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/9 and http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1209

SolutionThe problem is here:
go to EFI and do
Shell> sysmode service
Current System Mode: ADMIN
You are now in SERVICE mode.
Shell> sysset
System Information:
Manufacturer: hp
Product Name: server rx2620
Product Number: AB331A
Secondary Product Number is Identical
Serial number: DEH46....
Secondary Serial Number is Identical
UUID: .... (Valid)
Secondary UUID is Identical
Product ID: 0x11A
This product# is important and makes the differences. It should be 0x18A for the office friendly box.
But in order to change it you need a password or a special tool that you don't have and you probably can't get.
You will find the same problem here
http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Itanium-Based/rx2660-office-friendly-server/td-p/977865#.UfZWwm2aZaE
but no solution.
In fact you need the ofct.efi utility, consider to ask hp support.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: rx2620 OFS upgrade
Thanks Torsten. That's the information I was looking for.
It seems the setting can only be changed by HP. I can't think of a reason for not providing the "ofct.efi" utility to the customer if the only change is the "Product ID" and the fans could be purchased/installed.
Btw, this server has product ID as 0x10a which I guess must be an old version product.

Re: rx2620 OFS upgrade
The product id depends on the cpu model too. IIRC the id above was from a montecito cpu.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: rx2620 OFS upgrade
Maybe this is the difference -
0x10a - Badger Peek
0x11a - Cougar Peek -> supports Montecito

Re: rx2620 OFS upgrade
Then run the tool and convert the system. Then install the kit and start.
The "normal" server cannot start with the OFS kit installed and the OFS server cannot start with the "normal" fan kit installed!
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
