rx2660 smart array question

I have a new rx2660 with the smart array controller and 8 146 GB SAS drives. It came configured with one logical drive mirrored. Can the RAID policy be changed without data restore? I'm guessing not.

A little background. I would like to end up with one or two file systems for application data. Would I be better off creating two logical drives, one mirrored for vg00, and one RAID5 (5+1) for app data? Or would I be better off with one logical drive at 7+1. I know that placing the app data in vg00 may not be ideal, but I'm wondering about the possible performance gain with the 7+1.

If I need to start over with reconfiguring the array and reinstalling, what would be the high level steps?

Thanks!

Re: rx2660 smart array question

Are really all disks in only 1 logical drive?

I would at least use 1 logical drive for vg00 and one for data.

Manual is here:

HP Smart Array P400 and P800 Controller for Integrity Servers Support Guide, March 2008

Hope this helps!

Re: rx2660 smart array question

I thought the one logical disk was kind of strange as well. Thanks for your advice.
