rx6600 firmware v03.01A - what's different to V03.01

I see that V03.01A firmware for the rx6600 was released on 13-Mar-2008. V03.01 was released on 26-Nov-2007.

The V03.01 release seems to have disappeared from the rx6600 support pages and is not clearly referred to in the V03.01A release history or release notes.

For mission-critical systems where we have good configuration control and thorough testing we need to know what's changed between versions. If we replace a machine we want to have identical hardware and firmware.

Does anyone know exactly what happened here and exactly what differences there are between V03.01 and V03.01A firmware releases for the rx6600?

Thanks, Colin.

Re: rx6600 firmware v03.01A - what's different to V03.01

Hi,

From the following page:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3257036&swItem=ux-55779-2&prodNameId=3257037&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1

Note: This package ("PF_CRUSASYS0301A") replaces the previously released package ("PF_CRUSASYS0301"). The firmware revisions provided are the same, however PRS and HFC firmware have been removed. Any previous downloads of "PF_CRUSASYS0301" should not be used and instead replaced with this new package. See the FIXES section of these release notes for further information.

PRS and HFC firmware updates have been removed. These firmware updates had the potential to fail, causing the HFC firmware revision not to display via SYSREV after an update. When this occurs it may also cause the fan monitoring firmware and any subsequent firmware updates to fail. Servers that experience this issue should manually update FPGA/PSoC firmware to package version 50.07 downloadable at: www.hp.com/bizsupport. Note: There is no functional difference between HFC version 00.03 and 00.04 on rx3600 or rx6600 servers.

So, it would seem like a good update to do.

Phil

Re: rx6600 firmware v03.01A - what's different to V03.01

OK, so V03.01A has less content that V03.01A and you need to update the FPGA/PSoC separately. The 3x rx6600s we have seem to have the problem referred to in that the HFC firmware version is not visible in response to the SYSREV command at the CM> prompt.

Has anyone found "FPGA/PSoC firmware package version 50.07" available for download yet? I've only found V50.04 so far.

I agree that it's probably worth applying that package, once we know what the changes are and what else it affects.

Thanks, Colin.

Re: rx6600 firmware v03.01A - what's different to V03.01

Colin,

A note from the doc listed below:

"The System, BMC, iLO-2 MP and FPGA/PSoC firmware components are now all updated together using a single package."

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01294141

I can't find 50.07 either - perhaps a call to HP is required for guidance.

Re: rx6600 firmware v03.01A - what's different to V03.01

"FPGA/PSoC firmware package version 50.07" is now available on the rx6600 download area, so with that and the V3.01A firmware it should make up a complete set and fix the problem caused by the V3.01 firmware package.
