rx7620 rebooting all by itself

I have an Itanium server, rx7620, running HP-UX 11.23 that suddenly and frequently reboots. It does not write out a tombstone file, no crash dump, and no entry in shutdownlog. It has been doing this for about 24 hours now. It will go anywhere from 10 minutes to 6 hours between reboots. This is a development server running Oracle 10g, but is very lightly used.

Anyone have any ideas on what could cause a reboot with out leaving a footprint?

Re: rx7620 rebooting all by itself

It might depend on the size of the shoes. (sorry couldn't resist ...)

Is there anything of note in the /etc/rc.log file?
Is there anything in the /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log file?
Did this start about the time of the oracle install?

You could try and boot the box into a lower run level to see what happens, (i.e. lower run level than before oracle attempts to start.

Check the system's MP logs, it could give you hints as to why the system is rebooting.
Check on the temperature also. Best to log a call with HP if you have support they are best to diagonise these reboots.

Re: rx7620 rebooting all by itself

Make sure that crash dumps are configured in the file /etc/rc.config.d/savecrash

If its not set nothing will get saved.

Connect the the server via your console and ctrl-b to gsp

Connect and look for events like power issues that could be causing the problem.

Hi

The problem might be related to hardware, Connect to console (ctrl B ) then see the error logs there.

Report this to Hardware Support. Let them check the firmware for you.

Re: rx7620 rebooting all by itself

Hi,

The problem is probably due to bug in online diagnostics software. If you have installed

OnlineDiag B.11.23.02.22 HPUX 11.23 Support Tools Bundle, Mar 2004,

you shoud install patch PHSS_30889.
