rx7620 spurrious reboot

Hello,

we have an itanium rx7620 server that rebooted for no apparent reason. I've looked in the /etc/shutdownlog and see the following:

Reboot after panic: post_hndlr(): Unresolved kernel interruption

there aren't any message in /var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.log, however a crash dump was generated. I've looked in the INDEX file of the crash dump and I see the following:

The server is up now, however I need to find out what caused the reboot - has anyone seen this before, or can anyone advise where else to look?

Connect to the service processor and verify that all hardware is working. Sometimes a bad fan can cause the system to crash because of a temperature overhead.

Hi Annelise,

in order to determine if their is a H/W or a S/W related problem that could be the cause of the crash here, it's best that you collect the hardware logs from the system and open a call with HP and let them analyse.
If their is nothing apparent in the H/W logs (SEL , FPL) then the focus can be put on the OS side of things.

Thanks for the response - I did raise a support call with HP and they are investigating it, I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this problem.

We are having the same issue but with an rx4640. What was the result of HP's investigation in to your issue?

We had to install a patch that HP advised - it was an "unofficial" patch - I believe that they are producing an official version of this patch to be released August 2006 (that patch will be PHNE_33724)

I'd advise you to raise a call with HP about this,

Just an update for future visitors of this thread - we opened a call with HP software support and they analyzed our crashdump and other q4-processed files and let us know that CPU #2 was bad. We got it replaced and it's been running fine since.
