rx7640 hw raid1 configuration

Hi all!
I have rx7640 with SmartArray6402 installed. OS (hp-ux) is factory-installed on single disk - the second is just passive and, as i can see empty. My questions are:
1) Where to read about 6402 configuration - i want to make a hardware raid 1? I looked in docs.hp.com/en/9317/sa6400.pdf manual, but haven't found any information about how to configure it from hp-ux.
2) Is it possible to do such configuration without destroying current OS installation?

Re: rx7640 hw raid1 configuration

Yes. this is called "raid level migration" and the 6402 supports it. You have to migrate from raid-0 to raid-1 and you can do it live and it is non destructive.
Take a look at http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11587_div/11587_div.html

Also search in these forums for "raid0 to raid1 migration" you will find many threads.

Re: rx7640 hw raid1 configuration

You should have the raid software installed in /opt/raidsa. If it is not there you need to install it. You need to have a recent version, the earlier versions did not have the raid migration feature. I just checked two rx servers, one from Sep2004 does not have the feature and one from Apr2007 has it.

Re: rx7640 hw raid1 configuration

Hi,

Maybe this document will help:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/J6369-90051/J6369-90051.pdf

It covers Smart Array RAID Level Migration on HP-UX variants.
