rx8640-CELL could not boot, showing "PDHC_CELL_INCOMPATIBLE"

Guys,

There was an Cell-empty rx8640 and I've got a new CELL with full capacity of CPU and memory, and installed it into slot 0, after powering on the box, CELL's status stayed "Power On" in vfp, ps showed CELL 0 status as attachment; and when I tried flashing FW, it failed to flashing IPF_FW and PDHC, and ok for CELL_JTAG and CELL_LPM (just testing, not applying to every entity, see attachment)

I suspected it a CPU issue, MP:CM>df could not show CPUs' information, and CELL's information did match the other rx8640 box nearby.

Any comments?

Regards

Stephen

Re: rx8640-CELL could not boot, showing "PDHC_CELL_INCOMPATIBLE"

Hi  Stephen,

After installing new cell boards and CPU's, the system fails selftest (POST) with PDHC_CELL_INCOMPATIBLE error .

The description for this event is Cell and or cpu's have failed compatibility checks . It typically means CPUs are incompatible with each other or the CPUs FRUID cannot be read.

Check processor ZIF socket lock. Make sure it is the locked position and all processor screws are tight.

Surendar,
Assuming one processor did not have its ZIF socket lock, would it affect all processors on that CELL?

Hi Stephen,

If One Processor ZIF Socket lock would not cause affect other processors unless the CPU load order Maintained.

Cell Board CPU Module Load Order:

CPU Load order

ZIF Socket Locked/Unlocked:

Re: rx8640-CELL could not boot, showing "PDHC_CELL_INCOMPATIBLE"

Hi Stephen,

The previous link also have an update on this scenerio can happen:

This symptom can also be caused by attempting to power on the cell before PDHC has completed its boot-up procedure.
PDHC takes upwards of two minutes to boot once housekeeping is applied (when the cell is installed). Wait at least two minutes before issuing the PE command to power on the cell.

Look for PDHC_BOOT_COMPLETE in the logs for that cell to be sure PDHC is running before powering up the cell with PE.
So, Please  remove the CELL 0 and add, and powered ON the cell  after the PDHC boot up.
