simple MP question..

Is there any way to get to a

shell>

Prompt on a running system thru the MP? i need to disable some proc's for load testing and wasn't sure if the only way i can do this is at boot time. I know i will have to reboot for the proc's to disable but was curious if this can be done thru the MP while the system is up.

Re: simple MP question..

Acces the MP can be gained via the console.

If you are looking for the BCH or EFI then NO.

Re: simple MP question..

Sorry, missed that part.

Shell> is part of the EFI. You have to reboot to get to it..

Re: simple MP question..

You may be able to use icodmodify to disable CPUS from the OS.

Re: simple MP question..

It would be possible in a vPars environment. Even the diags can deactivate a CPU online, but this is a secured feature.

Maybe this is what you are really looking for:

Hope this helps!

Re: simple MP question..

I would need to completely disable instead of assigning workload. I want to stress test so i know how many proc's i will need for the app.

Re: simple MP question..

You didn't tell this so far ...

If WLM isn't the right tool for you, consider to reboot, stop at boot menu and run EFI shell in order to use cpuconfig.

Note: this disables the whole module (dual-core), not single cores.

Hope this helps!

Re: simple MP question..

right, i was just seeing if there was a way to get to a shell prompt with a running system thru the MP. I was almost sure you couldn't but wanted to ask if there was any way to diable cpu's so we could load test. Between the cost of the cpu's and DB licensing, i want to get it right. application vendors are very liberal with their requests.
