sx2000 superdome.

Hi,

I am new to the sx2000 superdome. What disk array can you hook up to it to be able to boot an os from to run off of the superdome?

Thank you
Jon

Re: sx2000 superdome.

Any supported (this means any HP array, more or less).

It depends if you need a boot device only or a large data container too, on the number of partitions , etc ...

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: sx2000 superdome.

The P2000 FC is the default boot device sold with the new Superdome 2, maybe also a good choice for you:

Re: sx2000 superdome.

Do you mean disk array as in RAID, etc (as Torsten provided info) or just a typical boot device found with the sx2000 Superdome?

Mostly Ive seen ds2110 or ds2120 systems attached. They hold up to four drives and its really just a rack mounted hot-plug shoebox. They only support one controller, so ideally you would have two of them attached to separate LVD SCSI cards. The drives in each would then be mirrored.

Re: sx2000 superdome.

Thanks for the feedback. I need to use 8, 146 gig drives. Can I use an DS2300 which will hold 14 SCSI drives? Also can I make this a boot device for the superdome. Also like I said this is new to me is it hard to make this a boot device and is there somewhere I can down load the steps to do this?

Thank you

Re: sx2000 superdome.

yes Jon "DS2300" can be used , to make a boot device you need to install OS media on top of it. Use installation DVD it will pick up the
first scsi drive to make it boot device if no OS is yet configured.

Re: sx2000 superdome.

I assume you are familiar with all the midrange servers, so this server is not so different.

If using SCSI disks you need 1 or 2 JBODs for each partition, if using an FC array you need only 1 (or 2 for HA) for several partitions.

But it would not make so much sense to use an FC array for a single partition.

So the DS2120 would be a good choice, another DS.... too, but for many partitions I would take this P2000.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
