Easy antivirus,spyware programs,for new users

Hello! I am writing looking for suggestions on programs for my Dad. I am going to give him one of my Presario XP Media's.His first computer,-ever. Its brand new.So he should be ok with the right stuff.
I don't care for Nortonthat comes pre-loaded, I use mcaffee,spybot,and ad-aware.I want to get out of this rut myself, so while were at it any ideas for me? I'd say I'm an advanced user.I also am running the Xp version myself.-Media Edition.I appreciate any info, and links! Thank you for your time! Any neat sites or programs for him he may like? He likes things that are rare and unusual. He is that guy you say, where did you find that? and your jealous.
That would keep him busy also.
