Re: Internet monitoring software

Hello Doug,

your request is a little bit unspecific...
That could be everything from a portscanner to Application- and Server-Management...
To give you some points to start with to build up an idea:

Re: Internet monitoring software

If you are referring to the modem packet transmission, some modems have an icon in the system tray. You can go into your modem properties in the control panel and turn on the icon if it is available for your modem.

Otherwise, more info needed.

Re: Internet monitoring software

Hi Doug,

Would a firewall program do what you want? Most let you see which programs are accessing the Internet. ZoneAlarm is a free version you can download (http://www.zonelabs.com) and is actually pretty good.

If you are looking for something to actually see the data being transmitted you will need a sniffer program. You may want to check into windump (http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/windump/). It seems to be highly regarded though I have no personal experience with it.

Re: Internet monitoring software

Hi,

Have the Windows snmp MIB loaded and snmpd running, then you can use a tool like MRTG (found at http://www.mrtg.org) to graph inbound and outbound network traffic remotely on the web.

We perform that on our winNT servers in my environment.

Hope this helps. Regards.

Re: Internet monitoring software

Indeed, what I am looking for is the monitoring tools that could tell me how much time each individual spends on surfing each website per week/month and the name of the websites they are visiting...etc. Pls advice. Thanks.

Re: Internet monitoring software

Hello Friend,

Glad to meet you. Your Question is little bit idealistic. Now-a-Days, Internet Monitoring is Quite frequently used. It is widely spread all over the world.Firstly, I want to let you know what the Internet Monitoring means . In my View, Internet Monitoring means Blocking the Internet. For this, I can suggest you one,

Re: Internet monitoring software

Hi,

I f you need time specific reports for each user, how much time he's spent and which sites been visiting, I guess u need to google some netcafe sort of software.

It can be done on harware and software both. For software the purpose could be better served by Microsoft ISA Server. It can do the job for you of complete sites details for every IP, even allow you to block sites or internet access for some users while allowing others. Lot more features.
