Get Insights from HPE Experts at IoT Solutions World Congress

IsaacRo

If you’re heading to the IoT Solutions World Congress, coming up October 3-5 in Barcelona, don’t miss the opportunity to get Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s take on the state of the industry and where IoT is going next. HPE experts will be speaking at six panel sessions; I hope you can join us there. Bring your questions, or just meet up to network and chat about the state of the art in IoT.

Here’s a quick overview of each session:

Survey Says!? What IT and OT say about IoT

Session CIBS5. Wednesday Oct. 4th, 11:30-12:05pm, in the Auditorium; Cross-Industry track.

We hear so much about the need to converge IT and OT for successful Internet of Things projects, but it’s not often we have an opportunity to explore IoT viewpoints within the two disciplines. Join SAS and Hewlett Packard Enterprise for this IT/OT panel session, which will include recent research results outlining IT and OT expectations. Learn how to break down the silos to unlock value from processes, data, and analytics.

Daniel Newman, Principal Analyst and Founder of technology analysis and research firm Futurum, will be moderating the session. The HPE speaker is Olivier Frank, Senior Director of Worldwide Sales, Business Development and Alliances for IoT and IT Systems. Frank drives this critical transformational offering within HPE’s Enterprise Group business.

Worker Safety in Hazardous Environments

Session H5. Wednesday Oct. 4th, 11:30-12:05pm, in Room 3; Healthcare track

Of all the many arenas where IoT can directly support human welfare, few offer more opportunities than workplace safety. More than 23,000 on-the-job injuries occur every day – over 8.5 million annually – in the U.S. alone, resulting in over 5,000 deaths and more than $192 billion in economic impact. In this panel session, you can learn how to leverage IoT to improve worker safety, reduce safety incidents, facilitate safety compliance, and adapt workforce operations by integrating smart wearables – helmets, vests, watches – with smart infrastructure and by drawing on real-time and historical analytics.

Madhu Pai, Director of IoT Partner Engineering with Wipro Digital, will moderate the session. He’ll be joined by experts from Wipro, as well as HPE Fellow Colin I’Anson, who leads initiatives to understand and develop new market categories. Currently Colin is exploring emerging ecosystems for industrial digitization, including IoT, that use compute at the edge, and helping to develop HPE’s active participation.

Edge Computing in Energy and Utilities

Session CIBS7. Wednesday Oct. 4th, 1:00 - 1:35 pm, in the Auditorium; Cross-Industry Bonus Session

Industrial IoT use cases increasingly recognize the need to place compute at the Edge – that is, in locations outside data centers and the cloud. Learn how organizations are considering edge compute in their overall IIoT strategies and building pragmatic roadmaps for success. The discussion will focus on business drivers, critical requirements, challenges, and trends in the energy and utilities sectors.

This is another great opportunity to hear HPE’s Olivier Frank speak, alongside other experts from major IoT players including Accenture and Huawei Technologies. The moderator is Jesse Demesa, Principle Partner at IoT advisory firm Momenta Partners.

Co-location of Robots and Humans: Empowering Safety in the Workplace

Session CIBS8. Wednesday, October 4, 2017; 5:10 – 5:45 pm, in the Auditorium; Cross-Industry Bonus Session

Robots and humans can work alongside each other, augmenting each other’s capabilities. But increasingly, manufacturers face the challenge of maintaining safety in the workplace when co-locating humans and robots. This panel will highlight the key factors that should be considered in building safe spaces.

Colin I’Anson is again the HPE speaker for this session; he’ll be sharing his knowledge of emerging industrial digitization technologies. The moderator is Tarek El Araby, Business Development Director, ME and Africa, with Advansys ESC.

Why IoT Is Requiring Us to Re-think Resiliency at the Edge

Session EU8. Wednesday, October 4, 2017, 5:10 – 5:45 pm, in Room 4; Energy and Utilities track

The current paradigm for data center availability is inadequate; it fails to fully address user-interruption based on criticality and the number of people per site affected. Learn how organizations are tackling this challenge and achieving the availability levels needed to support new data demands such as smart cities and remote business branch offices. The moderator is Steven Carlini, Senior Director of Innovation and Data Center Solutions for global energy management and automation provider Schneider Electric.

The industry expert panel includes Aaron Carman, Worldwide Director of Data Center Facilities Strategy for HPE Pointnext; and Pete Murray, Worldwide Vice President for HPE’s OEM & IoT Go To Market groups. Aaron has 25 years of expertise in the planning, implementation and migration of data center architectures and toolsets. Pete is responsible for developing and driving HPE’s technology OEM presence and portfolio, including hardware, software and services, with all customers and key partners globally.

IIoT in Agriculture: Farm to Table

Session OI10. Thursday, October 5, 2017, 11:10 – 11:45; in Room 6; Open Industry track

Connected agriculture has revolutionized farm planning and operations, giving producers more control and cost containment from initial planting to final harvesting. Learn how ancillary technologies such as drones and robotics are helping businesses automate and control the agricultural process, and what needs to happen next to ensure that these technologies are fully baked and accessible to organizations in the farm-to-table industries. The moderator for the discussion is Tim Scannel, Director of Strategic Content with CIO Executive Council.

Mick Keyes, Chief Technologist with HPE’s IOT OEM business, will share his expertise in the food and agriculture industries. Mick is part of a worldwide team driving HPE’s IoT and analytics strategy across a wide range of verticals.
