The future of retail is closer than you think

Over the last decade, the retail landscape has undergone a tectonic shift.  Customers no longer depend on one-on-one conversations with retailers inside brick-and-mortar stores to help them make purchasing decisions.  Across sectors, foot traffic is down, digital spending is up, and profit margins are shrinking.

However, while the digital marketplace is seeing exponential sales growth, 98% of Gen Z—over 20% of the US population—still prefers the in-store experience.  A majority of millennials—23% of the population—make most of their purchases offline, as well, meaning there is a real demand to improve brick-and-mortar locations for these coveted demographics and, by extension, their families.

IoT in RetailIoT in RetailAnd that’s where Deloitte and Aruba come in.  We’re working to help maximize margins from traditional retailers’ largest revenue channels: brick-and-mortar locations.  Imagine your customer walking into her favorite fashion store and being immediately alerted that the skirt she’s been eying online is on sale and in stock just three feet away.  Think about the frequent traveler walking into his favorite hotel chain and instantly being awarded extra loyalty points.  Or picture the family of four entering their favorite restaurant and receiving discount coupons.

We want to foster brand loyalty and help retailers create completely seamless experiences from entry to exit, which is why we’re giving Discover Madrid attendees a sneak peek of our latest solution.  This connected consumer solution for retail has the potential to completely upend the consumer experience, allowing for the tracking of real-time data and customer insights—assisting businesses in operations while quickly adapting to consumer preferences.  And since our solution uses modular, standards-based hardware and software components, retailers can customize the solutions they select, letting each location build off existing investments and add value to what they already have.

We can’t wait to show this solution off at Discover Madrid.  Visit our demo station on the show floor and join our multiple speaking sessions, where we’ll show you how to think big, start small, and scale fast with Deloitte and Aruba.
